Latest Art Project: An Artist Book

An artist book is an artwork that uses some or all of the characteristics of a book. Ex: They may use the idea of a page and not the idea of a story.

Does a book have to be our traditional codex? Will it be recognizable as a book in the end? Will you utilize every page? Will you still turn pages? Will there even be pages to turn? Words are of course an essential part of books. Or are they?

In the 1970s, artists decided to challenge our idea of a book and pick it apart. They also challenged the notion that artworks are things that are framed and put on the wall. In creating their artist books, the artists are asking that their books be read as well as viewed. They challenge the idea of what a book actually is and invite us to find new meanings for its usual forms and purposes.
